The short answer
Yes, CoolVantage repairs furnaces, heat pumps, and air conditioners in several San Mateo County communities, traveling about 30 miles from our San Jose base. We diagnose the problem first and explain your options before any work begins, including whether repair or replacement makes more sense under current Bay Area air rules.
CoolVantage Heating & Cooling repairs furnaces, heat pumps, and central air conditioners for homeowners across San Mateo County. We're based in San Jose, about 30 miles south, and we serve several communities on the Peninsula. This page covers what we fix, how a repair visit works, and how we schedule trips up from the South Bay. It also explains what Bay Area air rules mean if your system is near the end of its life.
What We Repair
Most calls come down to a system that won't start, won't stay on, or runs without properly heating or cooling the house. We find the cause before recommending any work, and we explain what we found in plain terms.
- Furnaces that won't ignite, short-cycle, or blow cold air
- Heat pumps stuck in one mode or icing up
- Central air conditioners that run but don't cool
- Thermostat, wiring, and control board problems
- Blower motors, capacitors, and other worn electrical parts
- Airflow issues from dirty filters, blocked returns, or duct problems
How a Repair Visit Works
A technician starts by asking what you've noticed, such as strange noises, smells, error codes, or rooms that never get comfortable. Then we inspect the equipment, test electrical components, and check airflow and refrigerant-side performance where it applies.
Before any repair begins, we tell you what's wrong and what it will take to fix. We also tell you whether the repair makes sense given the system's age and condition. If a part needs to be ordered, we'll explain the timeline and how to stay comfortable in the meantime.
Scheduling Service from San Jose
San Mateo County is about 30 miles from our shop, so we plan Peninsula visits with travel time in mind. When you contact us, we'll ask you to describe the problem and the type of equipment you have. Any model information you can find also helps. With those details, we can bring the right parts and tools so the first visit resolves as much as possible.
If you're not sure whether your community is in our service area, just ask and we'll let you know.
Repair or Replace? What Bay Area Rules Mean
Bay Area Air District appliance rules don't require you to replace equipment that still works. They apply only when an existing furnace or water heater fails or is replaced. If your furnace can be repaired, repair is still an option.
Planning ahead still matters. Under the Air District's furnace rule, natural gas furnaces manufactured from 2029 must meet a zero-NOx standard. In practice, that points homeowners toward heat pumps for replacements after that date. If your gas furnace is aging, it may be worth considering a heat pump now. The federal tax credit for heat pumps has ended for new installations. However, BayREN and local clean energy providers may offer incentives. Amounts change by funding cycle, so we confirm the current offer before quoting it.
